Single jersey fabric is knitted in a plain knit (RL single jersey) structure, either in lightweight or heavyweight versions. One side of the fabric is smooth (face side), while the other side has a reverse (back side) appearance. Due to the possibility of incorporating additional knitting elements such as tuck and miss stitches, single jersey fabric is widely used in the textile industry.
The front and back appearance of single jersey fabric are clearly different from each other. It can be produced in tubular form or cut and used in open width. It has approximately equal stretch properties in both widthwise and lengthwise directions. When cut, it tends to curl towards the back side on the side edges, and towards the front side on the top and bottom edges.
COMBED COTTON (PENYE)
Combed cotton is both a method of cotton yarn production and a type of yarn. Fabrics produced from these yarns are cotton-based. Combed cotton yarn is made from long, fine, high-quality cotton fibers that have been combed, typically in yarn counts of Ne 30 and finer.
The word “penye” originates from the French verb meaning “to comb.” In Turkish, it is also commonly used to refer to T-shirts or upper garments.
Compared to carded cotton yarn, combed cotton yarn is of higher quality, more uniform, and has a smoother appearance. It is also approximately 10–15% more durable. Fabrics made from these yarns are softer, stronger, have a smoother surface, and appear cleaner and brighter.
Combed cotton yarns are widely used in the production of fine woven and knitted fabrics.

- Medium weight: 160–200 gsm
- Heavyweight: 240–300–350 gsm and above
